Hutchinson Builders was appointed by Blades Project Services and Silver Needle Hospitality for the redevelopment of NEXT Hotel; formally known as Chifley Lennons Plaza. Originally built by Hutchies in the 1970s, the Chifley Lennons Plaza building was ready for a new lease on life with the incredible upgrade to NEXT.
Bound by the busy Queen Street Mall and Burnett Lane precincts in the Brisbane CBD, the site was a challenge given the restricted access for machinery, equipment and supplies, but also to ensure safety was maintained across the entirety of the project for the general public.
The works consisted of the demolition and construction of 304 hotel rooms, refurbishment works to two basement levels, and the construction of a new lobby, restaurant and external pool area. Hutchies was also able to increase the overall room capacity by 148 for a total of 304 hotel suites in time for the G20 summit held in 2014.
